What started as a small watch store in Tokyo back in 1881, ended up being a brand name today worn on many wrists all around the world! Seiko watches have been present on the market since way back in history, and truth be told, they are making history! Given how adored this brand is, it’s no wonder that you have red a bunch of Seiko watch reviews, while this review will concentrate on the Seiko SKX series of diver watches. Even these days, the legacy of the founder Kintaro Hattori lives still in Seiko watches.
SEIKO SKX MODELS
The Seiko SKX are wristwatches that anyone wants to own and probably will. If you are a fan of watches, you don’t have to ask how good Seiko watches are – you already know they rock! However, the Seiko SKX series is not just another collection of some pretty watches; it is a splendid assortment of tickers that offer both beauty and value! Continue reading for an in depth overlook at the most popular SKX models as we compare the Seiko SKX007 vs SKX009.
A true masterpiece, timeless design, out of this world quality that comes at the most pocket friendly price – yeap, we’re talking about the majestic Seiko SKX 007! This classic Seiko dive watch has been around since 1965 when the first mechanical Seiko diver was introduced to the public eye – the 62MAS. Fast forward to today, the SKX 007 shows to be the best reincarnation of the 62MAS that has been around all those years and kept running through thick and thin! It is so good that even the ISO organization approves of it as an actual scuba diving watch, which is not an easy standard to meet considering the price of the watch itself. The 42mm case diameter, along with the 200m water resistant, paired with the stainless steel construction and Seiko 7S26 inhouse automatic movement – there are all features that any person in search for a solid wristwatch out there wonder if this is the one they’ve been looking for!
Is any Seiko review complete without mentioning the timeless Seiko SKX009? A weight of 200 grams, with a stainless steel 42mm case and a thickness of 13mm, the SKX009 is arguably the perfect choice for anyone looking for a solid combo between a diver’s watch and an everyday timepiece. Similar to the 007, this one also comes with two different band types in Europe, SKX009K1 with rubber band and SKX009K2 with stainless steel strap. Japan markets have similar models SKX009J1 or SKX009J2.
Fun fact: the SKX009 is often referred to as the Pepsi watch because of its red and blue colored bezel.
Another worth mentioning feature is the fact that this watch actually does not need a battery, making it extra simple for those who are not so thrilled about winding their watches. The motion of your arm is what get’s the 009 going, so the only time it will stop working is if you don’t wear it for 48 hours; and it takes seconds to restart once you put it back onyour writs. This kind of watch is called automatic watch for those who does not know watch terms very well.
SEIKO SKX007 OR SKX009?
Please note that all the features of the Seiko SKX007 can be found from the SKX 009 as well. As a conclusion, we’d like to point out that these two epic wristwatches are not at all different at their fundamentals. While the SKX007 can be a better choice for those who prefer classic designs, the SKX009 is the ‘funnier relative’ because of the Pepsi-look. We hope this Seiko review will prove to be helpful, and here is a friendly advice: you won’t go wrong with either of these two!
